Expensive gems deserve special travel-treatment

Posted
TUSCON (KGUN9-TV) - Before they make their glittery debut to guests at the Gem Show, all those national treasures have to make it to Tucson in one piece.

That's why sellers, like Steve Behling, take special care when packing and transporting his company's collection of beautiful gems.

"We need to ensure that each specimen is within it's own private, little box and wrapped carefully, so it can make the transportation down to the show."

Every item worth hundreds of dollars; if not hundreds of thousands of dollars which was driven down in a truck from Golden, Colorado.

Behling told KGUN9, many gem sellers choose to line the boxes with dry cleaner bags as a way to keep them safe. But, for the even larger items, they get their own specially cut-out piece of foam.
