TUCSON, Ariz. — Comic shops across Tucson are kicking off Free Comic Book Day with a *Bang!* *Boom!* *Pow!* this Saturday.
Thousands of comics spanning multiple genres and generations will be available for free as part of this yearly tradition.
Whether you're looking to learn about a new superhero, or wanting to revisit a classic storyline, these stores have something for everyone.
Heroes and Villains Comic Book Store
This store is giving away more than 10,000 comics this Saturday. Some of the genres up for grabs include superhero, manga, action, comedy, and adventure books from several publishers. "We are going to have food vendors out front, local cosplay teams inside and out, as well as thousands of comics to give away," the store said. Heroes and Villains Comic Book Store is located at 4533 E. Broadway Blvd.
Since Free Comic Book Day began eighteen years ago, Charlie's Comic Books in Tucson has celebrated it. Along with the free comics on display, the store will have eight artists on hand providing free sketches, raffles will be held, and original artwork will be auctioned off. All proceeds benefit Tucson's Casa de los Ninos. “Comics are a fun and enduring form of entertainment for readers of all ages to dive into as imagination comes to life. Whether it be popular comics, film, television shows, or video games, there’s something for everyone to enjoy,” said owner Charlie Harris. Charlie's Comic Books is located at 1421 S. Kolb Road.
Fantasy Comics is hosting its annual Free Comic Book Day giveaway and Swap Meet this Saturday! Customers who attend will see multiple vendors including Old Pueblo Comics, Toy Soldier, Schaff Dog's Comic Books, Tom's Comics, Left Hand Asylum & Presidio Comics and more. "Fantasy Comics will also have local artists Tim Champion, Eric Schock, and Michael MoxieKid Steimlesketching inside, with more to be announced. We will also have cosplayer Kendall of the Arizona Avengers to visit with! We hope you'll come and visit us that day!" said owner Matt Sams. Fantasy Comics is located at 2595 N 1st Avenue.
Besides giving away free comics, R-Galaxy is holding a trivia contest with prizes! We are running a 55% off all comics sale, and a buy 2 get a 3rd free sale. At least five artists will be joining us to draw for customers as well," said Rick with R-Galaxy. This comic shop is located at 2406 N. Campbell Road.
Hundreds of licensed pop-culture shirts will be on sale during Free Comic Book Day at Showtime Cards. Of course, tons of comics will be given out to celebrate the day. "We will have comic book artist Santino Arturo and his team, James from Babcock Press, and more drawing sketches. Former Disney artist Angel Lujan will be doing face paintings," Showtime Cards said. This shop is located at 5801 E. Speedway Blvd.
