SEDONA, Ariz. — Coconino National Forest officials say recent flooding from storm runoff in the Sedona area of north-central Arizona damaged and closed campgrounds and day-use areas along creeks in the Red Rock Ranger District.
Forest officials say rapidly flowing water spread debris, knocked over grills and buried picnic tables.
No injuries were reported.
Damaged sites that were closed temporarily pending cleanup and repairs included Chavez Group Campground, the V Bar V Heritage Site, Call of the Canyon Picnic Area and the Beaver Creek and Bullpen day-use areas.
Forest officials noted that additional precipitation is expected into the coming week and say they don’t yet know when the affected sites will reopen.
