It's a special night for five law enforcement officers recognized as "Unsung Heroes."

The Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Foundation presents the awards Thursday to four officers from Tucson Police and one from the Pima County Sheriff's Department. Two officers are police academy instructors. They're being honored for the lessons they instill in the recruits.

"Right now I'm assigned to the police academy with Southern Arizona Law Enforcement training center, with officer Ojeda. With each academy class that comes through, we mandate that they do at least two community projects, but we try to foster the idea and the ownership with the recruits themselves," said Officer Jon Collamore with TPD.

"I was surprised. Very much so surprised. I didn't expect it, very unexpected, but I'm grateful. Very," said Officer Angelica Ojeda with TPD.

A formal gala will be held at the end of this month to officially present these deputies with their awards.
