Tucson Fire recommends avoiding flooded washes during hard rains.
Using the mantra "Turn around, don't drown," Tucson Fire representatives say avoiding rising water is the only sure way to stay safe.
Alexa Liacko reports the department had 27 rescues last year, and got nearly 100 calls from drivers stranded in cars.
There is also a "Stupid Motorist Law" that makes it possible for stranded drivers to be forced to pay the cost of their rescue.
First responders recommend calling 911 if you find yourself stuck in floodwaters.
