Fireworks are exploding the pet population at Pima Animal Care Center.

Pets frightened by July 4th fireworks may have run off and be were unable to find their way home.

That led to at least 25 lost dogs turned into PACC by mid-day today, including the dog who turned up at Norina Gutierrez's house on the northwest side.

"A little after nine o'clock he was at the door, panting and frantic so we let him in."

She says she posted the lost dog on Facebook and a neighborhood website before she brought him to PACC.

PACC expects a surge in lost dogs for the next few days.

To help pet owners, PACC will waive the usual fees to claim a lost animal, especially if you agree to spay or neuter the pet.  there will be no charge for the surgery.
