UPDATE: 34-year-old woman dies in Midtown crash

UPDATE (2:35 p.m., June 4):

A 34-year-old woman died in the car crash that took place at Stone and Drachman Wednesday afternoon.

According to a news release from Tucson Police, Crystal Marie Cruz was driving a Dodge Neon northbound on Stone Avenue, when her car struck a Toyota Highlander heading southbound that was attempting to make a left turn onto Drachman.

The passenger of the Neon was ejected from the vehicle. The passenger and Cruz were transported to the hospital where Cruz died a short time later, the news release said.

The driver of the Highlander was not injured. An adult male passenger in the Highlander was treated for a minor injury.

According to the news release, witness statements said Cruz was swerving through traffic, moving between the median and curb lanes and traveling well above the posted speed limit of 30 miles per hour.

The 41-year-old driver of the Highlander was not impaired at the time of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
