Posted

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Construction on a memorial park for one of the victim's of the January 8th shooting could start in the near future.

The family of Christina-Taylor Green is working to create a park in her honor on the northwest side. Today, they held a ceremony to unveil plans for the proposed space on Shannon and Magee roads. Christina-Taylor's father says it's their way of giving back to the community.

"We felt the community wrap their arms around us, on that week, after that month, that year, even today," said John Green. "So we felt it was important for us to find a way to give back to the community and this park is one of the ways we're trying to do that."

Plans for the park include seating areas, a cactus and butterfly garden and bike trails. The family is working to meet an $85,000 fundraising goal. They hope to have the park completed by June of next year. If you would like to make a donation, click here.
