TUCSON, AZ — For the last 16 years, Travis Sherbourne has lived in a midtown neighborhood.
Recently, she's seen an empty lot near Dodge and E Monte Vista, become a dumping ground and says people got in the habit of throwing their trash away when there was a dumpster there.
"And that was okay. I mean, at least it was going into a bin. They took that away I honestly don't know how many months ago."
Sherbourne says shortly after, more trash started appearing on the curb.
"Those two chairs down by the mailbox there they appeared and then since that it seems like every week something gets added. First it was the red couch, now I see there's a mattress."
There is a Brush and Bulky program run by the City of Tucson that will clean out most trash left in each neighborhood, twice a year.
An official with the city's environmental services says it is the responsibility of the property owner to keep their land clean, including the curb.
The city says when it comes to empty lots, sometimes it is difficult to reach out to the owner of the property.
"Sometimes it's honestly kind of depressing to drive home after a hot day of work and go by this."
The city asks people to report trash left behind in streets so they can remove it during their next semi-annual pick up.
