Employees at five businesses in Southern Arizona have been cited for selling alcohol to minors.

On Friday April 27th, the Southeastern Arizona DUI Task Force cited five businesses in Cochise County during a Covert Underage Buyers detail. This was done in cooperation with the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety and the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control.

The task force focused on 31 businesses in the Sierra Vista area based on previous enforcement of liquor violations, complaints from citizens, and other factors.

Four teams took part in the operation including the Sierra Vista Police Department officers, Cochise County Sheriff's Office deputies, and Tombstone Marshal's Office deputies. They also had the assistance of eight Covert Underage Buyers.

The businesses that sold or furnished alcohol to minors were:

  • Food City: 85 S. Hwy 92
  • Giant Fuel: 5217 S. Hwy 92
  • Texas Roadhouse: 2075 El Mercado Loop
  • Manda Le Restaurant & Lounge: 3455 Canyon De Flores
  • 76 Gas Station: 2632 E. Fry Blvd.

The remaining businesses targeted, acted appropriately by checking the CUB's identification card, which clearly indicated the person was under 21.

SVPD Cpl. Tim Wachtel us tge coordinator of the Southeastern Arizona DUI Task Force. He says, "through enforcement and education, the CUB program seeks to ensure businesses train their employees to properly check identification when customers purchase alcohol."
