CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — Construction on an electric car manufacturing plant kicked off Monday.
That plant will produce Lucid Motor's first vehicle: Lucid Air.
Lucid Motors plans to create more than two thousand jobs in the area by mid-next year.
Casa Grande was selected as the plant's location after a search that expanded across 13 states.
“We are pleased that a company on the cutting edge of technology and innovation such as Lucid chose to build their manufacturing facility in Casa Grande,” said Casa Grande Mayor Craig McFarland. “Not only will Lucid bring thousands of good paying jobs to the area, but it also anchors our efforts to attract additional high-tech businesses to the region and develop a highly skilled workforce for advanced manufacturing.”
The company says construction is estimated to cost $300 million. The building is set to be completed by late 2020.
