A downtown staple will be closing its doors at the end of 2017.

Hydra, located on the corner of Congress and 6th has welcomed customers to their eclectic store since the 1990's, but now they're set to close at the end of the year.

Since 1994, Hydra has braced Downtown Tucson with its vintage apparel.

"When we opened, it was the days of vinyl pants and Madonna, so the store was different," says Margo Susco, owner of Hydra.

Throughout the years, the store has changed with the times and has taken risks. Susco says, "I think that's what keeps us current and in the public eye."

Susco says, the closing, "was a very emotional decision."

Adding, that the store was not closing due to the decrease in sales but says money had nothing to do with her decision.

In fact, Susco said, "Downtown is on a real upswing and I'm proud to have been here in Tucson and raised the bar for 23 years."

Susco says, now it's time to give back to the community.

Hydra will be closing its doors December 31, 2017.
