MARANA, Ariz. - The Dove Mountain CSTEM K-8 school in Marana hasn't even been open an entire school year, and already it's expanding.

Construction crews are currently building out an entirely new section on one side of the newly built schools.

The new section will be home to a total of six different classrooms.

"We have three wings, a kindergarten through second grade wing where we're adding two classrooms on the end of that wing and then our two story building is third through fifth grade on the first floor and our middle school, sixth seventh and eighth grade upstairs and so each of those we'll be adding two classrooms on the end of the wings," said Andrea Divijak, the Dove Mountain CSTEM school principal.

Mrs. Divijak said school officials expect construction to wrap up over the summer and the new classrooms will be ready for students in the 2020-2021 school year.

There are currently about 850 students enrolled at Dove Mountain, with the expansion school officials said they hope to bring in 150 new students.

The newly built school first opened its doors in August of 2019.

Mrs. Divijak told KGUN9 the school was so warmly welcomed by the community and others across southern Arizona it grew much quicker than they initially anticipated.

She added with the expansion, they hope to bring in students who want to be in a CSTEM environment.
