TUCSON, Ariz. - Diaper Need Awareness Week starts on Monday, September 23 and runs through until Sunday, September 29.

In the United States one in three families can't afford to buy diapers for their baby or toddler, according to the National Diaper Network.

The need is one of the reasons the Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona tries to bring in as many diapers as possible during Diaper Need Awareness Week.

Thousands of southern Arizona families benefit from the Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona, among them is the Barger family.

Christian Barger and his family came to Arizona from Colorado, but didn't have any luck finding a job right away.

Barger said there were many times he chose to go a night without a meal so that his kids would not only be well fed but also have fresh diapers.

Barger added the moment he found out about the Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona he felt a weight had been lifted off his chest.

"For families like me or who are in my economic situation, you can't always afford to go to the store you can't always afford to get the diapers your baby needs and you have to sit there and fret am I going to have to pay to get diapers or get food for my child, which is more important, having something like this really helps," Barger said.

The Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona is accepting any size diaper donations. The donations can be dripped off at the Diaper Bank, which is located at 1050 South Plumer Avenue.
