Deputies are searching for a 30-year-old Sierra Vista man connected to a stabbing incident on October 9.
Carol A. Capas, Public Information Officer with the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, says a stabbing took place in the 5000 block of Ricardo Drive in Sierra Vista.
The woman told deputies that a man had stabbed her boyfriend and fled.
Deputies located a 30-year-old man lying inside the trailer with a significant wound to his abdomen. He was airlifted to a Tucson hospital for treatment.
The woman advised that she and the victim were inside of the trailer when she heard a man she recognized knocking on the door and asking to speak to her boyfriend, said Capas.
The woman said her boyfriend went outside and heard the sounds of a struggle before the victim came back inside the home saying that he had been stabbed by the man identified as Derek Childs.
The woman said Childs came into the home before fleeing the area.
The victim told deputies he went outside to speak to Childs about a propane tank when a struggle occurred and he was stabbed with a hunting knife between 6-8 inches in length.
Deputies went to the residence of Derek and he was not home. A search of the area was completed and several items of evidence were recovered which are consistent with the accounts of the incident given by the woman and the victim, said Capas.
If you have any information on the whereabouts of Childs, please call the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office at 520-432-9500.
