A man is in custody after a carjacking that could be connected to a murder.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department is not identifying the man yet, but deputies say he approached workers outside a south side home, pointed a gun, and demanded they give him their work truck. The home is located on Blackbrush road -- near Country Club east of 1-19. The workers called the Sheriff's Department to report the armed robbery. A PCSD PIO says a few hours later, the suspect called Tucson Police from 29th and Craycroft, but no details have been released on why the suspect contacted police. We're told during that time, a neighbor discovered a body near the carjacking location.
"The initial evidence we found leads us to believe the homicide of this individual did not take place where his body was initially left. We're still working on where the exact homicide was. He was found with obvious signs of trauma. We're still working on the cause of death," said PIO Deputy Cody Gress.
Gress says it's unclear right now if victim is connected to the carjacking. The suspect is in custody for the carjacking, but a person of interest for the murder.
The victim's name has not been released yet pending notification of the next of kin.
PCSD is asking anyone with information to call 9-1-1 or 88-crime.
