Deputies from the Cochise County Sheriff's Office are investigating two separate residential burglaries in Hereford from Thursday, according to a news release.
Carol Capas, a spokeswoman for the office, says the first burglary happened off of Jaxel Road. Small items were taken from the home while the owners were away.
Capas says the second burglary happened off of Stetson Way, as the "would be" thieves attempted to break into the home a 16-year-old resident was home at the time and contacted the Sheriff's Office for help.
The suspects then fled the area in an unknown direction without getting inside the home.
Capas says these types of crimes are on the rise during the holiday season.
"If you have a home entrance with large trees, shrubs, or other items blocking the view of neighbors, then you have an opening for a criminal to get in. If you leave a door or window unsecured, then you have an opening for a criminal to come in. If you have packages delivered to your home and left in plain sight while you are away, then you have an opening for a criminal to rob you," Capas said in a news release.
If you have any information on these burglaries, you are asked to call 9-1-1.
