Deandre Ayton donating $100K toward hurricane relief efforts in Bahamas, asking for help from Suns fans

PHOENIX, Ariz. — Former University of Arizona basketball player and current Phoenix Sun Deandre Ayton is donating $100K toward hurricane relief efforts in the Bahamas.

Ayton, who was born in Nassau, Bahamas posted to Twitter Friday reflecting on the damage caused by Hurricane Dorian.

"The damage back home is devastating and my heart goes out to my fellow Bahamians as we deal with the effects of Hurricane Dorian," Ayton said in a statement.

In addition, Ayton is asking Suns fans and those in the Phoenix area to donate supplies on Sept. 10. Ayton says the location will be announced soon.

Items to be collected include: toiletries, diapers, baby wipes, first aid kits, cleaning supplies, canned goods, box fans, leather work gloves, hand sanitizer, non-perishable food, water, generators (no clothes) and monetary donations.
