TUCSON, Ariz. — New data shows the number of fatal child pool and spa drownings in Arizona decreased by 16 percent in 2018 with 21 last year.

Despite the decrease, Arizona was once again among the deadliest states in the U.S. for child pool and spa drownings.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commision's Pool Safety Campaign is urging Arizona parents and caregivers to be vigilant any time they're in or near the water.

Follow pool safety steps like teaching kids how to swim, learning to perform CPR on children and adults, and keep pools and hottubs covered while they are not being used.
