PHOENIX — A variety of Valley businesses have been affected by a 2019 data breach.
Local restaurants, hotels, motels, coffee shops, RV resorts, universities and more are on the list.
The breach was discovered when suspicious activity was recorded in early January. At the end of January, the investigation determined that an "unauthorized party was able to deploy malware to certain of North Country’s business partners", therefore collecting payment data from customers.
The company says the information collected may have included the cardholder’s name, credit card number, expiration date, and CVV.
"North Country takes this incident and the security of our customers’ information very seriously. The company has updated processes to further strengthen its systems to protect its business partners’ customer debit or credit card information and will continue to work with third-party experts to help ensure the highest levels of security," North Country said in a statement.
