Beverly Rabinowitz of Blenman Elementary has been named the 2016 AAA Crossing Guard of the Year in Pima County, according to a press release.
Rabinowitz was awarded a plaque, a $500 gift card from Arizona, and a $500 check was given to her school from AAA. There was also a surprise school-wide assembly for Rabinowitz.
“Over the years, Ms. Beverly has been at her post greeting students and families, come rain or shine, in the dead of winter and during the heat of the Tucson summer. She has built countless relationships, not only with the students, but the families that trust her time and time again with their children. I’m honored to work with her," said Miles Warrior of Tucson Unified School District in the release. Warrior nominated Rabinowitz for this year's award.
This was the ninth year AAA Arizona awarded Crossing Guard of the Year. After receiving nominations, AAA traffic safety staff evaluated nominations and then observed finalists performing their duties.
