The Arizona Board of Regents will have one last vote to finalize the University of Arizona's next president on Monday. If he's approved, Doctor Robert Robbins will officially be signed on as the university's 22nd President.
The board can immediately start contract negotiations with Doctor Robbins. Current President Ann Weaver Hart makes around $670,000 a year, which is about a 50% pay cut to what Robbins currently makes at the Texas Medical Center. He said money has nothing to do with the job--being a part of the academic world is a calling for him.
Robbins said he hopes to be president here at UA for at least the next 10 to 15 years.
Robbins is expected to take over for current President Ann Weaver Hart as soon as this June. She had a 6-year contract and is stepping out one year early. She will get paid her full salary for the last year and go on a one year sabbatical. After that, Hart will stay on as a faculty member in the College of Education.
