BENSON (KGUN9-TV) -- Construction projects on I-10 near Benson have been slowing traffic for the past few weeks.
The Arizona Department of Transportation says it's part of a $15.1 million project to improve the interstate.
Construction includes bridge deck surface repairs at the Empirita Bridge near milepost 292. Traffic was down to one lane in the eastbound lanes, but will be lifted by the weekend,
Around 5 p.m. on Thursday traffic was slowed down about a mile and half, speeds were down to about 20 miles per hour.
At milepost 285 on westbound I-10, the interstate is down to one lane as well as crews work at the Davidson Canyon bridge deck. That restriction will be lifted this summer.
ADOT says some paving will resume this April, and the agency urges drivers to give themselves some extra time as they travel.
