TUCSON, Ariz. — A concealed carry class is happening in Tucson on Saturday. The firearms education company says it's the biggest class they've ever held.

Safe Arizona Firearms Education, or SAFE is holding the course at the VFW 4903 in Midtown on Nov. 16 from noon to 5 p.m.

Firearms instructor Gerard Violette says 200 people have signed up.

"Down here in Tucson, these have been our biggest classes, historically, and consistently," Violette said.

SAFE, based out of Mesa, holds $20 CCW courses all over the state. A Tucson class is held every couple of months, according to Violette.

He says the biggest reason people sign up for the class is to be able to travel to 39 states with the permit. SAFE also sees a spike in sign ups during election years, and after mass shootings like the one at a high school in Southern California this week.

"Whenever that happens, a lot of people start getting a little bit more awareness of how this kind of situation can happen at anywhere, at any time," Violette said.

Violette says the class isn't about politics, but rather about teaching people the right mindset and attitude that comes with being a gun owner and having a CCW permit.

The class on Nov. 16 in Tucson is full. Sign ups are now open for the next class on Jan. 18.
