A new company started by a University of Arizona alumnus is bringing free portable charging to restaurants and universities across the country and it could be coming to Tucson next.

The "Oomf" is a portable device you can take with you while you're out with friends at a bar or restaurant.

The device operates as fast as a wall charger and users just need to enter the code on the back into their website to get started.

The devices are being rolled out at 30 universities this fall.

The idea is that what whatever business users are at will sponsor the device they will not have to pay to use it.

"You don't have to buy a charger anymore. These will be out and accessible for you and you use it and return it. So there's no added cost to you. It's just a convenience," co-founder Gavin Gray told KGUN9.

Oomf and Gray are working to get U of A and other Tucson businesses involved.
