Posted

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucson will start sending some convicted criminals to serve time in Nogales.

In a consent agenda item Tuesday night, the Tucson City Council voted to begin sending prisoners convicted of misdemeanors to Santa Cruz County in Nogales, Ariz. The move will save between $180 and $380 per 10-day sentence.

The city has no jail and previously contracted with Pima County to house inmates in its facility.
