City to Celebrate Silverlake Park Field Improvements

Posted

A new LED Sports Lighting project will now light up the night sky at Silverlake Park.

Friday evening, a ribbon cutting will be held on the $292,500 project.

The ceremony will take place Aug. 31, at 5:30 p.m. near the multipurpose field on the southwest side of the park at 2420 S. Kino Parkway.

The new four-pole LED Sports Lighting will allow youth sports organizations to practice and play into the evenings during summers, to take advantage of cooler temperatures and extend playing time during the fall and winter as daylight grows shorter.

“The completion of this lighting project further exemplifies my commitment, and the commitment of my colleagues who serve on Tucson’s Mayor and Council, to our Parks system and the constituencies that it serves.” said Vice Mayor Fimbres in a press release. “Our parks are needed and loved by our youth and their families, from childhood through their senior years, and we are committed to preserving and improving them so that they will enhance the quality of life for all Tucsonans for years to come.”

Ward 5 Tucson City Council Member and current Vice Mayor Richard Fimbres will be cutting the ribbon and speaking at Friday's celebration.
