TUCSON, Ariz. - The City of Tucson is moving forward with a measure to raise the age to buy tobacco and vaping products to 21.
Tucson City Council members voted 4 to 3 on an ordinance in Thursday's study session. Now it will be scheduled for a formal vote.
Council members first brought up raising the age in August 2018.
Pima County rejected a similar ordinance in August of 2019.
The city council will meet for that formal vote on October 22. If it's passed, it would go into effect January 1, 2020 with a 90 day education period for retailers.
