TUCSON, AZ — For the first time, there is a poetry contest going on in the city of Tucsonand it's run by the Downtown Tucson Partnership and the University of Arizona's Poetry Center.

CEO of the Downtown Tucson Partnership, Kathleen Eriksen, says the first annual Old Pueblo Poems Literary Competition strengthens their goal to continue revitalizing downtown.

"Old Pueblo Poems will add visual and cultural interest to downtown especially during these chillier months."

There will be 20 winning haiku poems in the end that will be displayed on planters along Congress St.

"It gives people the opportunity to take a pause in their busy lives and read some culture, it's wonderful."

This year's theme is, "Life in the City". Eriksen says the contest is open to everyone and anyone interested has until the end of that day on February 25 to submit their haiku.

Winners will be announced on March 21, the same day the poems will go up and stay up until the end of spring.
