TUCSON, Ariz. - The City of Tucson is continuing to install solar panels at various city facilities.
"We're installing over 14 megawatts across 45 city facilities, saving over half a million dollars in the first year alone," said Michael Catanzaro, the Energy Manager for the City of Tucson.
So far, 15 facilities have had the solar panels installed, with 30 facilities waiting for installation.
In the next phase of the project the city will be installing solar panels at seven city facilities. Those facilities are the Ward, 1 Ward 3, Ward 6, Tucson Police Department Division Operation West Office, Tucson Fire Department Station 20, Sun Van Administration Office and the William M. Clements Regional Center.
The buildings getting the solar panels were chosen carefully by those working in the energy office.
"We went through 26-hundred electric bills and identified the accounts that had the need for solar and proceeded from there to select the accounts that worked for us," said Catanzaro.
