TUCSON, Ariz. - City officials named Charles "Chuck" Ryan as the next Tucson Fire Department chief.

Ryan, who has worked in fire service since 1994, will start the job Sept. 30. He most recently served as assistant fire chief at Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

"I am excited about the experience and leadership Chuck brings to the organization and am looking forward to great things for the Fire Department," City Manager Michael Ortega said in a statement.

Ryan is the 28th chief in TFD's history. He will oversee 681 staffers.
