Officers from the Tucson Police Department responded to a call of a child falling out a moving vehicle on Monday afternoon, according to Sgt. Pete Dugan.

The child has been identified as 2-year-old Sebastian Salinas.

The incident happened in the 2000 block of Placita del Jubilo around 4 p.m. Monday.

Officers say Salinas was riding in the cabin of a truck and he fell out while the car was moving.

The boys parents told investigators that they had buckled their son into a car seat in the back of their car. As they were traveling the boy was able to get out of his car seat and open the drivers-side passenger door.

He fell out of the vehicle and struck his head.

He was transported to Banner UMC where he died.

KGUN9 has learned the family of the boy lives in the neighborhood.

Neither speed nor impairment appear to be factors in the accident.
