CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) - Chandler police say a man fabricated a story about an intruder breaking into his home to cover up a fatal shooting.
Police spokesman Seth Tyler said Friday that 19-year-old Nathaniel Thomas has been arrested in the shooting death of Gage Bodenheimer.
According to investigators, the suspect and the victim were among a group of people in Thomas' apartment Thursday morning.
Thomas allegedly pointed a handgun at Bodenheimer to wake him up.
Thomas told police he believed there was no bullet inside and pulled the trigger, fatally striking Bodenheimer.
Thomas initially told 911 that he had shot an intruder.
Detectives say witness statements and evidence disputed the claim and Thomas was arrested.
Tyler did not say what charges he will face.
It was not known Friday if Thomas had an attorney.
