Cedar Fire still seen as threat to Arizona communities

SHOW LOW, Ariz. (AP) - Fire lines held overnight in the fight against a wildfire threatening several communities with thousands of residents in east-central Arizona.

However, Navajo County spokesman Adam Wolfe says the fire still threatens those communities, and Show Low, McNary and Pinetop-Lakeside remain under pre-evacuation advisories.

A Friday morning update on the fire burning approximately nine miles southwest of Show Low puts its size at 15 square miles, including thousands of acres set on fire by fire crews to deprive the fire of fuel.

The fire continued to grow Thursday but stopped short of preset points which if reached by flames would trigger evacuations.

Winds were lighter Thursday, and crews were able to get a fire line in place in most critical areas.

Approximately 600 personnel are assigned to the fire.
