TUCSON, Ariz. - As the end of the Ina and I-10 project nears, business owners in the area are hopefully much of their business will return.
The project began close to two years ago in February of 2017.
Paul Sandoval, the owner of Paul's Auto Repair says the highway roadwork has driven away more than half of his business, at one point doing away with more than 80 percent of people who were coming to him to fix their vehicles.
"A lot of my customer base is women and elderly and they see the signs on the street and they don't want anything to do with it," said Sandoval.
Sandoval added the only way he was able to survive was to take out a loan to pay for the rent on his shop.
He told KGUN9 despite going through some hardships, he's thankful his business was lucky enough to survive, unlike others in the area.
However, as the end of the Ina and I-10 project nears, Sandoval said he now has another problem to worry about, an asphalt project the City of Marana is working on directly in front of his shop.
That project is not scheduled to be finished until sometime mid April.
