Border Patrol agents in Green Valley rescued 15 individuals trapped in an open-pit mine on Tuesday.

Agents were tracking a group of suspected undocumented migrants on Duval Mining Company property when the subjects entered a mine, according to a media release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The agents climbed down to the group to prevent the individuals from endangering themselves.

After assessing injuries, agents realized loose soil lining the mine’s edge would make it too dangerous for anyone to exit safely.

BORSTAR agents responded to conduct an emergency extraction.

Border Patrol identified the group of men from Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras, illegally present in the United States.
