Border Patrol arrests mother for smuggling drugs

TUCSON (KGUN9 -TV) - Tucson Sector Border Patrol Agents arrested a woman for smuggling 12 pounds of heroin, 2.5 pounds of cocaine and over 4 pounds of methamphetamine on Wednesday, March 9 at the I-19 checkpoint.
 
Officials say at the time of the arrest the woman was traveling with her young child. The estimated value of the narcotics is over $207,000.  
 
Agents requested a secondary inspection based upon a canine alert. Canine tracked the packages to the rear of the vehicle where agents found eight saran - wrapped packages. After searching the female agents found two more packages.
 
The woman was arrested at the 1-19 checkpoint by Tucson Sector agents the child has been turned over to Child Protection Services.
