Border Patrol agents arrest 5 individuals attempting to smuggle 102 pounds of narcotics

TUCSON, Ariz. — U.S. Border Patrol and CBP agents arrested five drug smugglers with backpacks that contained over 102 pounds of narcotics, 30 miles east of Lukeville July 12.

Border Patrol discovered the smugglers entering illegally around 7 a.m. and agents tracked the individuals from the air via helicopter.

CBP says agents arrested four men from Guatemala, and one from Mexico.

There were seven backpacks, which had nearly 90 pounds of marijuana and 12 pounds of methamphetamine.

Officers seized the drugs, and turned over the individuals to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
