A Border Patrol agent was injured after a suspected drug smuggler drove his car into the agent's leg.

On February 23, Tucson Sector border patrol agents responded to suspected drug smugglers loading bundles of marijuana into an SUV near Palominas, Arizona.

As the agents approached the car, the driver accelerated into one of the agent's leg.

The agent was taken to the hospital and was later released.

After the incident, the adult male passenger and the adult female driver fled the scene.

A few hours later both suspects were arrested separately and taken into custody.

Both are pending criminal charges. Both are Mexican nationals.

On February 24 agents found the SUV abandoned near Hereford, Arizona.

Four bundles of marijuana, weighing 93.5 lbs in total, were found inside the SUV.
