Tucson police detained an armed man who was near Bonillas Elementary School, 4757 E. Winsett Street, Friday morning.

Sgt. Pete Dugan said a school employee saw an armed man in front of the school. The employee confronted the man, who pointed the gun at the employee. When a school official called police at 7:21 a.m,, the man ran away. Police tracked down the man, who was wanted on an unrelated warrant, and booked him into Pima County Jail.

Police are not naming the man because they don't have enough evidence to tie him to the school incident.

The school was placed on lockdown, which was lifted shortly after 8 a.m. Police will be on school grounds when class lets out Friday.
