UPDATE: Body of homeless man found in Sierra Vista identified

UPDATE (4:32 p.m.):

Sierra Vista Police has identified the homeless man found dead in Sierra Vista as Thomas Brand.

SVPD provided more details on the incident. When authorities arrived, the body appeared to be disturbed and personal items had been disrupted or removed from the scene, including a black e-bike.

Upon further investigation, it appeared the body was most likely disturbed and his property stolen post-mortem. A preliminary medical exam showed no outward signs of physical trauma, the news release said.

A homeless man was found dead in a field west of Walmart in Sierra Vista on Thursday.

Officers and detectives responded to a report of a dead man at about 4:45 p.m. They found the body near a tent at an apparent homeless camp, the news release said.

SVPD is treating the death as a homicide.

The cause of death will be determined via autopsy by the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner.

The identity of the man has not been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
