The Bug Creek Fire has burned more than 1,000 acres near the Cordes Lakes area, but is now 50% contained.

According to InciWeb, the Bug Creek Fire started south of Cordes Junction off I-17 on June 28.

The Yavapai County Sheriffs Office has called for mandatory evacuations for portions of Cordes Lakes.

The I-17 northbound lane is closed to traffic; the southbound lane has recently reopened.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety has recommended travel on State route 87 and State route 260 as alternative routes to I-17.

Authorities have asked for the public to avoid travel in the area so emergency fire resources can access the fire.

The cause of the fire is still investigation.
