A huge event next weekend will benefit a former Arizona Football player battling Lou Gehrig's disease.

Warner Smith was diagnosed with ALS two years ago. It's a progressive, neurodegenerative disease that stops the brain from sending signals to parts of the body.

The fundraiser at Starr Pass resort takes place June 24-26 and will help pay for Smith's medical costs, as well as prepare for future costs like modifications he will likely need at his house and on his vehicle.

"When I was first diagnosed, it really was a very lonely feeling because it was before the Ice Bucket challenge and now it's completely different," said Smith. "Now I feel like I just have angels on each shoulder."

Smith says the disease has limited his mobility and he now uses a motorized scooter.

The weekend-long fundraiser will start with a dinner and auction Friday night, that will also include a roast of Smith by his former coaches and teammates including Super Bowl champion Tedy Bruschi.

Tickets for the dinner Friday night are $100 per person or $175 for couples. You can also purchase Sponsor Packages. More information on the event can be found here.
