Chess championships in Tucson

The Arizona Scholastic State Chess Championships are being held in Tucson this weekend, according to a press release. 

More than 600 players from kindergarten to 12th grade are expected to play in the tournament.

The state's chess championships are held annually and rotate between Phoenix, Flagstaff and Tucson. 

The top individual finishers in the high school and junior high school sections will qualify to represent the state of Arizona at national level chess competitions. 

The tournament is being sponsored by the Southern Arizona Chess Association. It will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Tucson - Reid Park from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
