Posted

Five Red Cross volunteers from Arizona and Texas are in Hawaii after they were deployed to help as Hurricane Lane heads for the islands.

The Regional Communications and Marketing Manager for the Red Cross says one person from El Paso, two from the Phoenix-area, one from Flagstaff and another from Payson left Tuesday and Wednesday for Hawaii.

The Red Cross is getting both people and supplies in place to help as soon as it is needed. First, evacuation shelters will be made available followed by other relief efforts after the hurricane.

Volunteers and staff will focus on providing safe shelter, feeding victims and emergency workers and provide emotional support, first aid and health services and distributing emergency relief supplies.
