LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona court officials have granted a motion to give two Lake Havasu City parents accused in the death of their 2-year-old daughter separate trials.
Today's News-Herald reports that 23-year-old Andrew Lamorie and 26-year-old Brittany Rodriquez were scheduled to stand trial together after being charged with murder and child abuse.
Authorities say Lamorie was arrested last January after his youngest daughter was reported motionless.
Forensic officials say the girl died from blunt force head and neck trauma, with severe malnutrition named as a significant factor.
Authorities say Rodriquez was arrested after her daughter's death, and told police she witnessed Lamorie hit the child.
Authorities say Rodriquez allegedly described years of physical abuse committed against her by Lamorie.
Court officials are expected to decide trial dates on Oct. 15.
