PHOENIX (AP) - A northeastern Arizona man has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison in a 2017 domestic violence case.

Federal prosecutors say 33-year-old Shaun Gui Hale of Oak Springs was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix.

Hale had previously pleaded guilty to domestic assault by strangling or suffocation.

According to FBI investigators, Hale assaulted the victim while they were alone together in his home in late April 2017.

Hale was accused of repeatedly punching the victim and also strangling her into unconsciousness, inflicting serious injuries.

Prosecutors say both Hale and the victim are members of the Navajo Nation and the offense occurred in Oak Springs on tribal land.
