PHOENIX (AP) - U.S. authorities say a 41-year-old Arizona man has been convicted by a federal jury of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Phoenix says Murphy Alex Begay of Pinon was convicted on Friday and will be sentenced in July.
Begay was found guilty of luring an 11-year-old outside the house of the child's mother during the night and forcibly raping the victim in a dirt field.
The defendant and the children are both members of the Navajo Nation. and the crime occurred on the Navajo Nation reservation.
Begay was on parole for shooting an unarmed man when the rape occurred.
The crime was investigated by the FBI.
