PHOENIX (AP) - An Arizona grand jury's indictment accuses a tax preparer of false returns, identity theft and failure to file taxes.

Roberto De La O is accused of preparing false Arizona personal income tax returns between 2014 and 2017.

The state Department of Revenue's Criminal Investigations Unit gathered evidence in the case.

De La O allegedly prepared about 118 tax returns that fraudulently listed Arizona income tax withholding.

State Corporation Commission records list De La O as manager of Red Home Investments.

Prosecutors say the inclusion of fraudulent withholding amounts on their returns resulted in higher refunds for taxpayers.

The affected taxpayers will now have to file amended returns and be responsible for the additional taxes due along with interest.

It was unclear Monday if De La O has a lawyer yet.
