Gov. Doug Ducey to release 2nd budget proposal

Posted
PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey is set to release his budget proposal as he puts firm numbers behind policies he outlined in this week's State of the State address.

The budget to be revealed Friday will lay out a roadmap for Ducey's spending priorities and isn't expected to include deep cuts he championed in his 2015 budget to close a deficit.

The Republican governor faced an estimated $1 billion shortfall in the budget year that began July 1, but after the budget passed last March revenues began soaring.

This year the treasury is expected to have $555 million in cash when the fiscal year ends, although just $218 million is ongoing revenue.

That gives Ducey room for slight spending boosts. But he's promised tax cuts and a tight leash on spending.
